The Turk's Inn is a genuine Wisconsin roadside treasure. This fascinating supper club was
founded in 1934 and is Jay's inspiration for "Artie's Deco Inn". |
 |
For years, on his way to visit Madeline Island, Jay had seen an
improbable vision while speeding north of Hayward on Highway 63.
What was that? In a state better known for its cheese curds
than sweeping Turkish rooflines, this place is a real stand out.
One day Jay stopped to investigate and the story of the people
behind this facade turned out to be far more interesting then
the decor.
The Turk's Inn was Jay's inspiration for his newest manuscript,
"Artie's Deco Inn" but the amazing, ironic and truly unique story of
Marge Gorgian still needs to be told. |

Good guys, Jim and Craig, at
Spider Lake Lodge have a page with some great interior shots of
The Turk's Inn. Here's what they have to say about the bar,
"Stepping into the fabulous bar is
like stepping back in time, but to which decade it's not clear."
See their Turk's Inn page,
here. |

The Turk's Inn road sign on Highway 63 is alone worth preservation.
Inside the restaurant, a picture of Marge, the owner, at JFK's
inaugural ball, luxurious (and fading) custom upholstery and stories
of exotic peacocks wandering the gardens only begin to evoke the
style and glamour of this place in year's gone by. |
