 Jay
was born on June 13, 1960 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Eric and Donna Gilbertson.
He is the middle child of three. His younger brother Kurt, age 33, lives
in Petaluma, California and works in the fashion industry. "Little" sister
Amy, age 40, recently served as Vice-President of Pitkin County Bank in Aspen,
Colorado and became a new mother in late October 1997. Jay's new niece is
Nina Beidleman. Nina's father, Amy's husband and Jay's brother-in-law, Neil
Beidleman was one of the survivors of the May 1996 Mt. Everest
tragedy. |

In high school he was a champion swimmer and at age
15 placed first in the nation in the breaststroke.
Jay graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Stout
in 1984 with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. |

Jay had been doing his mother's and friend's
hair since childhood but like many creative people felt that he should do
something more "serious" for a profession. He diligently pursued a career
in the hotel industry but there was always a connection to the hair
business. While a student at UW Stout Jay even modeled in a few hair
shows in Chicago. |
